  • Economic Rehabilitation of Injecting Drug Users
    This report was submitted to Family Health International (FHI) in September 2007 to evaluate the effectiveness of the pilot phase of the "Economic Rehabilitation of Injecting Drug Users (IDUs)" project, JOBS conducted an evaluation on the success of the project.  During the pilot phase of the project, more than 80% of the clients stuck with the program and remained drug free - compared to a recidivism rate of approximately 90% reported by FHI for IDUs completing only a detoxification or rehabilitation course.   • Creating Livelihoods to Contribute to Adolescent Empowerment of Adolescents in Bangladesh
    This report was submitted to UNICEF in January 2008 to evaluate the effectiveness of the pilot phase of the "Creating Livelihoods to Contribute to Adolescent Empowerment of Adolescents in Bangladesh" project During the pilot phase of the project, more than 660 adolescents living in rural areas received technical training and wage-based employment opportunities near their villages earning a total of more than $36,000.  In addition to this 3 different training modules were developed to prepare adolescents for wage-based employment opportunities, basic business management, and entrepreneurship.   • Identify the Constraints and needs of MSMEs in Access to Finance

This report was submitted to the Japan Bank for International Cooperation in June 2007.  The assessment was carried out in 8 districts of Bangladesh over the course of 6 months, and included 840  Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).  The study identified constraints faced in accessing financial services by the "Missing Middle" - those MSMEs too small to qualify for formal banking services, but too large for micro credit. This report was submitted to United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Bangladesh in May 2005 to assist in the formulation of ideas that will ensure Bangladesh’s global competitiveness following the expiry of the Multi-Fiber Agreement (MFA).  The study offers an overview of export diversification projects/organizations operating in the country, lessons learned from the export promotion strategies of Bangladesh’s regional competitors, an evaluation of the country’s trade policy, and the selection and analysis of seven employment intensive export sectors.   • Save the Children, USA - Barisal
    This report was submitted to Save the Children US in January 2008 following an assessment which aimed initially to identify livelihood opportunities and private sector linkage potential in the Barisal region of Bangladesh.  During the course of the assessment the region was hit by Cyclone Sidr, a massive tropical cyclone which devastated the region.  Due to the massive impact of the cyclone the scope of the assessment increased to include potential livelihood rehabilitation opportunities for the hundreds of thousands of affected households. Read more...

This report was submitted to Save the Children US in February 2008 following an assessment of potential livelihood opportunities and private sector linkage potential in Meherpur District in western Bangladesh.  Meherpur is one of the poorest and least developed of Bangladesh's 64 districts, and is a relatively new area of operation for Save the Children US.  Read more...
