If Bangladesh is to join the ICT
revolution, a highly skilled and internationally recognized
workforce is the first requirement. Without this, no amount
of investment in economic growth activities will have a substantive
impact in this country with a population of 135 million, a
population density of 900 people per square kilometer, and more than
50 percent of the people under the age of 30.
Currently, Bangladesh has
a long way to go. According to the “The Global Information
Technology Report 2007” which is compiled under the auspices of the
World Economic Forum, Bangladesh ranked
118 of 122 countries in the “Network Readiness Index”. In 2006 it
was 110 and in 2005, 100; even after adjusting for the number
of countries incorporated in the ranking each year, Bangladesh has
been falling annually in its ranking.
In
an effort to reverse these trends and provide effective,
internationally recognized ICT training, JOBS Bangladesh has
continued to support the
Cisco Networking Academy Program first implemented by the
JOBS Project in 2003. In addition, the Sun Academic Initiative of
Sun Microsystems has also been added to the platform of
ICT programs coordinated by JOBS Bangladesh. To date over 15
universities, located around the country, participate in these
programs. Offer ICT curricula that track to specialized,
internationally valid, vendor certifications the Cisco and Sun
programs open the doors of the world to qualifying Bangladeshi
graduates and professionals.
